TRAILERS: NBC Releases Trailers For Their New Series At Upfronts....
Even after the busy weekend NBC has had, they are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Just a short while ago, the good people over there decided to release the full length trailers for the series they've purchased for the upcoming season. Watch all of them, and read our mini review and ratings, after the jump.
The Playboy Club
An American icon is born.
A provocative new drama about a time and place in which a visionary created an empire, and an icon changed American culture.
Looks decent enough. Does leave one wondering where they could possibly go with this after the first season, though. From first appearance, it's not clear to us how much the writers can build on the premise - especially, if they're aiming at the same market as Mad Men, which is apparently what they're trying to do.
TRAILER: 7.02/10
Grimm
Once upon a crime.
Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Well, those weren't stories, they were warnings.
This is more like it. There are a number of roads the writers could take this story down - many of them potentially brilliant. Now, we're just waiting to see how the pilot turns out.
TRAILER: 7.98/10
Prime Suspect
Not just a pretty face.
Jane Timoney (Maria Bello) is an outsider who can be willful, rude and downright reckless. She's also a brilliant cop.
Eh.
TRAILER: 5.02/10
Whitney
Get a little too comfortable.
They say marriage is the number one cause of divorce. For Alex and Whitney, it's one of many reasons they're determined not to take the plunge.
We're not here for this. There is absolutely no excuse for a laugh track in 2011.
*shrugs and sips Martini*
TRAILER: 4.34/10
Free Agents
It's so wrong, but it feels so... wrong.
A workplace/romantic comedy that proves you can try to put yourself back out there, but sometimes what you need is right in front of you.
This is OK. But, not only can we not see where the writers could possibly take the story/plot after the pilot, but we don't see it lasting more than a season at most.
TRAILER: 6.04/10
Smash
Dream big.
There's nothing more exciting than the opening night of a hit Broadway musical, except maybe what happens getting there.
While this looks pretty good so far (and we're loving that our girl, Katherine McPhee, has finally gotten something decent), again we have no idea where this could go after the first season. Once the broadway show has been completed and its first night has inevitably been a great success (presumably in the season finale, if the writers are worth a damn), what could possibly go down in season two?
TRAILER: 7.58/10
Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea
Life, straight up or on the rocks?
Based on the outrageous number one best-selling book by Chelsea Handler.
We're not here for Ms. Handler, so, yeah...
VERDICT: N/A
Bent
Rebound, remodel... what's the difference?
A new romantic comedy about two people who may be bent, but are definitely not broken.
Eh.
TRAILER: 5.01/10
Awake
Can you wake up from reality?
Lots of people find themselves leading some kind of double life... but none quite like this.
Now, THIS is more like it. We could see this even being on ABC or CBS, it's that good. The plot looks solid, there's an element of mystery there that will keep audiences intrigued and the brilliant Jason Isaacs is the main star. Our one problem is that NBC isn't airing it until mid-season.
More fool them.
TRAILER: 8.79/10
Up All Night
Oh, baby.
Life is all about balance. So what happens when you throw a new baby into it?
Decent enough. May even see a second season if it's lucky.
TRAILER: 7.34/10
So, NBC's score so far based on an average of our ratings? 6.58.
And it goes without saying that that isn't very strong at all. But we'll have to wait for the other three main networks to release their trailers before we can compare their respective offerings for next season.
